DAWITT ABRAHA - UNLEASHED
IT IS THE SPIRIT WHO BEARS WITNESS, BECAUSE THE SPIRIT IS TRUTH EARLY LIFE (by Dawitt Abraha) I was born into a devout orthodox Christian family near Asmara, the capital of Eritrea, northeast Africa. I am the product of an arranged marriage set up between the chiefs of two neighboring and feuding villages that were convened as a means of uniting both communities. Growing up I witnessed the social skills, equipoise and equanimity that go into successful conflict resolutions. I was fortunate to have witnessed civil dialogue and peaceful approaches to conducting opposing factionalism. The earliest consequential influences during my formative years were my dear and loving parents, especially my father; Abraha Wolde-Gabriel. Father was of a larger-than-life presence. He impressed and had a positive affect on everything he touched. My father had been very successful at all he engaged in; namely in creating and building successful businesses and at developing familial and social relationships. He passed away on June of 1980 at a hospital in Asmara, Eritrea. His funeral had a semblance of a rock concert gathering, a form of wake, respected and attended by people from all walks of life. My family and I still miss him dearly, departed but never forgotten, even after the passing of so many years. Another earlier influence on my life was my maternal grandfather. l describe him as a sage, as a philosopher, as a man of the law, as a homeopath and as a naturopath medicine man. I also had significant lasting impressions on me given from teachers, from friends and from my expansive readings. I always enjoyed conversing with homeless people who evidently had no qualms expressing their opinions without restrictions of calling. My mainstay philosophy has been to respect that "the pleasures of madness, are only known to the madman". Towards the end of my teen years I left my native Eritrea to pursue a university education and to explore the world. I have lived and or worked in several Eastern and Southern African countries; followed by visits to Europe and Canada. I became a naturalized American citizen where I studied, lived and worked a good chunk of my adult life, mostly in the East coast of the United States around Washington DC. I have the privilege of finding "home" in different avenues of life from international and local travel, writing travelogue stories, poetry, music and dance, from engaging in exchanges of ideas and experiences, taking various classes, from teachings to spending time with friends and sometimes with family and enjoying a variety of delicious foods, including chi gong ( philosophy; yoga, meditation, tai chi, cycling, swimming, hiking and climbing up the mountains. However; I am consciously and taking actions to progress myself and to develop my world around me. I honor myself and everybody else. I strive to be part of a community of a world where an equitable distribution of opportunities is respected.and a society where the scientific method is of primacy in public political economic policy. My activities juicify my life! After living a busy and productive life, I decided to take advantage of the fruits from my labours, retiring to Northern Thailand in 2013 and becoming a gentleman of leisure. Lived and worked by the Pacific Ocean coast of Hawaii during the last chapters of my career. After retirement went on vacation to Chiang Mai, Thailand, the land of smiles and stayed. I am living the dream, which comes with the privileges of freedom and independence, a place where my intellectual inner self can be unleashed. I have been a bohemian for most of my adult life, although would not describe myself as totally unconventional, but rather a free spirit who uses expression through my passion for poetry and the arts. An open letter to my brothers and sisters. Our parents, one of their earliest best financial decisions. Papa was the main actor in our traditional patriarchal culture growing up in Asmara, Eritrea. For whatever it is/was worth. I learned these lifestyle set of skills from Papa as discussed in the attached essay written by one Doug Armey . Sometimes it was in the form of advice, some other times it was through my observations of him in action out in the real world. Furthermore I would like to talk story with you all when we meet, if you be so inclined. Do you remember that our parents first and early savings/investment was our main humble family abode in Asmara ("Taabba" neighborhood) Eritrea. Thenceforth, they bought a half of a villa, repeat it was a half of a villa. They could not afford to buy the whole house so they made an agreement with the owners to sell them half of it. It was an odd looking house, a demi-villa. It was located behind Comboni High School in Asmara, in the vicinity of The Main Hospital. They sold that one and kept on keeping on buying and selling more properties. The rest is history. In many parts of the world, nudity is celebrated daily, routinely, and nonchalantly. There is no real biological need for covering up if you reside in places like Hawaii, The Pacific coasts, in SE Asia or in many parts of Africa and such were the weather so permits. Many of Our inherited sartorial and clothing fashion choices/cultures are artificial, religious and or social constructs. Often times we get enslaved by these customs when we follow them rather blindly. For limited circulation, philosophical discussions. Answer to which work of art caused more than one scandal? Our values, norms, behaviours, social customs, ideas and feelings are largely social constructs or derivatives of our political-economy. Thanks (fyi) understanding.
